For my birthday this year, my mom and dad finally got me my Clarisonic Mia 2 – something that I have been wanting about for over a year now. I was SOOO excited to finally get my hands on this little thing and I couldn’t believe they actually bought it for me!
For some of you who don’t know, a Clarisonic is a face cleansing system that is constantly being talked about among beauty gurus as well as beauty and skincare lovers.
What is the Clarisonic?
“The Clarisonic Sonic Method, a combination of patented sonic devices and state-of-the-art skincare formulas, is clinically proven to amplify results of both professional treatments and daily skincare regimens.” – Clarisonic.com
Basically, it’s a handheld cleansing system for your face that uses sonic technology and is claimed to be one of the best way to clean your face rather than using just your hands. I know.. it sounds strange and kind of unnecessary doesn’t it?
What Does the Clarisonic ACTUALLY Do?
“Clarisonic’s patented sonic technology gently removes the impurities traditional cleaning methods leave behind, cleansing six times better than your hands alone. In just 60 seconds, its sonic action removes impurities from pores so that creams, serums, and moisturizers are more effective. And with regular daily use you’ll notice a reduction in dry patches, oily areas, and blemishes.” – Sephora.com
There are various versions of the Clarisonic but one of the most famous is the Clarisonic Mia 2 – which is the one that my parents gave me. Now, the question is – Does it ACTUALLY WORK?
I received the Clarisonic Mia 2 in Sea Breeze (basically Tiffany Blue – my absolute FAV color) in a set from Sephora which was designed for detoxing the skin. Instead of getting the sensitive skin brush that I wanted, I received the detoxing brush. I had read that this brush was a bit harsher than others but after doing some research of my own, I decided to just stick with the brush that the kit came with and see how things worked out.
When I first got the Clarisonic Mia 2, I was a bit scared to use it, because many people had said that once you begin using it, your skin may begin to break out because it has never experienced such a thorough type of clean before. So basically breaking out or as some people call it “purging” was one of the initial reactions to the Clarisonic cleansing system. However, I found that my skin really didn’t react this way at all.
I have pretty clear skin with occasional break outs here and there. My skin is a dry and oily combination, with some dark spots and uneven skin tone. One of the reasons I wanted to get this product was because I had read that it eventually helps with dry skin and evens out the skin tone over time as well as slowly reduce blemishes.
I have been using the Clarisonic for about a month now, and I have noticed some changes in my skin. My face is softer and absorbs my moisturizer better and over time I’ve noticed that my breakouts are reducing somewhat. I’ve also noticed that my face has a more even tone overall and my dry patches are diminishing. I usually use my clarisonic ever other day because I find that the detoxifying brush can be a bit too much on my skin to use every single day.
I also started using all the little samples that my brush came wish such as the Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser, which is really great and I am thinking about repurchasing this product (I use this cleanser about once a week). For everyday use, I use my Clinique Liquid Facial Soap for Mild Skin and this really works great with my Clarisonic because its a gentle and effective cleansing face wash.
How Does it Work?
Basically, after I charged this bad boy, I put some of my facial cleanser on the brush head and turn it on. I clean my face with the brush in small circular motions for 1 minute – 20 seconds for my forehead, 20 seconds for my nose and chin, and 10 seconds for each cheek. The Clarisonic is Completely waterproof which is really freakin’ awesome because I can use it in the shower too – which I do sometimes. The Mia 2 comes with 2 speeds. but I like to use it on the lowest speed when I don’t really have any make up on. Another great thing about this little fella is that after each cycle of seconds it makes a beeping noise so you know to move onto the next part of your face, which is really helpful so you don’t over do it.
Worth the Hype?
I definitely LOVE my Clarisonic Mia 2, and I really feel like there is a noticable difference in my face. My make up applies smoother on my face, my bumps and blemishes are slowly going away. I’ve also noticed that my face has a healthy glow and just feels overall amazing.
The Clarisonic is a very pricy tool and usually costs between $100-$300 depending on which model you decide to purchase. The Clarisonic Mia 2 is $150 – which is again, a lot of dough but is definitely worth the money. The Clarisonic comes with a 2 year warranty which is great because the company will fix anything wrong with it or send you a new one if something goes wrong.
Sephora often times offers the Clarisonic in a set with samples of different products, which is the one that I got, and it’s really great because you’re paying the same amount but getting more for your buck.
I also remember seeing the Clarisonic Mia First for $99 at Sephora on Black Friday (and I’m pretty sure it’s still the same price still), so there are some more options if you’re not willing to throw down so much cash.
So, basically I would recommend this to anyone who is thinking about buying this product because it really does work and is totally worth all the hype its getting. It is a bit pricey but definitely worth it for anyone that has troubled skin and is debating whether or not they should purchase this product!
