Top 5 Favs from Motives by Loren Ridinger

Hello beauties!

So I realized I haven’t really done a review in a while and that’s because the next review that I wanted to do was a review of Motives by Loren Ridinger. This review is going to be on all motives cosmetics products which I have received as a gift from a great friend who works for the company. I wanted to make sure that I really used most of the products and got a feel for them and adjusted them into my regular make up routine.

About a month ago, I received a whole bunch of gifts from Motives Cosmetics through a friend of mine Marium Kabir, who is a  Motives Beauty Advisor, who provides color consultation, and helps match the right products with the right person. Marium specializes in helping people feel better from the inside out by providing customized health solutions. I just wanted to thank Marium for allowing me to try out all these new products, some of which I am obsessed with. Everything that I am going to be talking about in this post can be found on her website:

Here is everything that I received in the package:

I’m going to talk about my TOP 5 Favorite products that I received from Motives. Basically I’m discussing these 5 products because these are the products that I found worked best for me and my specific skin type, tone and texture. I have been using all of the products but these 5 are the ones that I have found myself using all the time and reaching for constantly when I’m doing a full face of make up.

1. Motives “Little Black Dress” Gel Liner

Well, well, well, I NEVER thought I would actually fall in love with another gel liner other than my MAC Blacktrack. However, I had heard a lot of good things about this liner and so when Marium asked me if I wanted anything specific this is the first thing that came to mind. I absolutely LOVE gel liner, I feel like the color payoff, the consistency, and texture of gel liner really shows up on my skin tone, and I also find that with a bit of practice, using gel liner is SO much easier than using liquid or pencil liner. ANYWHOO, Motives Little Black Dress Gel Liner is one of the best I’ve ever used. The color is SO DARK, I really think it might even be a darker black than my MAC Blacktrack. The consistency of this gel liner is a lot less runny than Blacktrack, which is actually something that I don’t mind because it really shows up darker and is a bit easier to apply cause of its thickness. I usually use this with a angled liner brush and it works great. The only thing that kind of makes me sad about this gel liner is that the color sometimes transfers to my crease and over my eyelid if I’m not wearing any eyeshadow, but the same problem also occurs with my MAC blacktrack liner as well – and I really just think that it’s because I have really oily eyelids which unfortunately leads to color transfer. :[ REGARDLESS of this minor issue, I really do love this gel liner and it’s probably my most favorite thing that I received in this whole package and it’s definitely something that I’m going to continue purchasing once I’m finished with this container! This gel liner costs about $15 on the motives website, which I find to be a decent price because the product is really absolutely amazing.

2. Motives Eye Base (Eyeshadow Primer)

This is a product that I really didn’t like at first because I had a hard time adjusting to the consistency of it. This eye base is actually a bit more liquidy than the primer I usually apply, so at first I wasn’t really impressed. But I realized that I was applying a bit too much to my lid which lead the base to crease on my eyelid, so once I figured out that I only had to apply a very little amount all over my lid, I found that I actually really liked this product. This eyebase is actually an opaque white color when applied to the lid, which allows it to work as a great primer. Everytime I use this eye base, my eyeshadow pops and the color pay off of my shadow is amazing. I really love this eyeshadow base and it’s another thing that I actually use more often now. I love using this all over my eyelid because the color is not too white and it actually helps hide the veins that show in my eyelids (annoying!). The Motives Eye Base is about $14 on the website, and I really do recommend this product because it works great and really does what its supposed to.

3. Motives Gem Dust – 24K (color)

This is one of my favotite things that Marium sent me! The Motives Gem Dust is basically a sparkly gold pigment powder with fine glitter in the product. It really does apply like a light dust, and you can make the pigment as bold or as subtle as you’d like. I love this product because it’s so versatile. I can use this for any occasion because I can control how I want the final look to be. This glittery dust can be used all over the eyelid as a subtle dust of color or packed up the inner corner of the eyelid to go for a more intense look. I was so excited to get this product because I LOVE glitter and this is the perfect color for me as well. I’m actually going to be ordering more of these soon in different colors so that I can have them in stock. The Motives Gem Dust runs for about $12 and it definitely a great tool to have when trying to achieve some bold and girly looks.

4. Motives Lip Crayon in “Naked”

I absolutely love this lip liner especially because it is the perfect nude for a girl with tan or brown skin! This is something that Marium just sent me and I never specified that I wanted a lip liner but I’m so glad that she sent it to me because I really do find it to be amazing! The liner is creamy and glides on to my lips without flaking or causing me any irritation. This lip liner goes perfectly with my nyx nude lipstick and it pretty much matches most of my nude pinks as well so it’s very versatile with what it can be paired up with. The color is great to blend with any other color and can also be used all over the lips as a base with a lipgloss applied over. I definitely recommend this lip liner for anyone who is searching for an awesome nude colored lip liner and it runs for about $15, which is a bit on the expensive side but if you’re willing to spend the money, this is definitely a great product to have on hand.

5. Motives 10 Years Younger Makeup Setting Spray

Last but not least, the setting spray. I absolutely love this setting spray, because it does exactly what is says. It allows my makeup to stay put for quite a long time, and it really hydrates my face and allows my makeup to look more like skin less cakey. The mist is perfect and I just spray it about six-ten inches away from my face twice to make sure it’s covering the full surface of my face. The spray says that it’s supposed to hold makeup for up to 16 hours, I don’t know if it’s actually true, but for me, personally it holds my make up all day long without any issues or problems which is perfect for me. This is one of the first make up sprays I’ve ever had and so far I really do love what this one does. I was so excited to get this because I was in desperate need of a setting spray and this is one that doesn’t dry out my face but in fact hydrates my skin and makeup and allows my skin to glow and look more radiant overall. This setting spray is $30, which I know is quite a lot of money for a setting spray but personally I really do find this setting spray to be amazing and I totally understand why it costs a bit more than usual.

There are a few more things that I received from Motives Cosmetics and Marium that I’ll be writing about in my next post, but I just really wanted to get my favorites out to you guys who are interested in this company in case there’s anyone looking into Motives products and doesn’t know where to start.

I really do appreciate my friend Marium sending me all of these goodies in the mail and allowing me the opportunity to try and explore these new products, Thank you SOOO MUCH Marium!!! Feel free to contact Marium through her website if you’re interested in purchasing any Motives Cosmetics products that I reviewed or if you have any questions you would like her to address. I also just want to let everyone know that all the reviews I have posted above are completely my own personal opinions and by no means have I been urged to say anything that I didn’t believe to be true. Overall, my experience trying all these new products from Motives Cosmetics has been wonderful and I’m really enjoying all the things that I received. There are some things that definitely made a difference in my makeup routine and I highly recommend getting out of your comfort zone and exploring some new products from different companies.

Until next time,

MAC 217 Brush – Is it worth the Hype?

I have just recently purchased a MAC 217 Brush – My first MAC Brush purchase ever. I chose to buy this one because the MAC 217 Brush is one of MAC’s highest selling brushes. Primarily used for eyeshadow blending, the MAC 217 Brush has white bristles, made entirely of goat hair, which means it does not have synthetic bristles like most brushes.

In the past, I have mainly used random brushes I have collected over the years. I’ve also been using ecotools brushes, both eyeshadow and face, and I’ve never had an issue with them. However, after using the MAC 217 for my eyeshadow application, I was completely stunned. The MAC 217 blends out eyeshadows BEAUTIFULLY. The bristles are super soft and do not scratch the skin at all. It picks up a great amount of product and makes eyeshadows look perfectly blended. The brush is the perfect medium sized to blend eyeshadows – it’s not too big or too small for application. I use the brush mainly for my crease and blending out any harsh lines that may be in the crease, but the brush is also one of the most multipurpose brushes I have used.  Occasionally, I sometimes use this brush to apply a light contour to my face, nose, and temples.

Basically, this is hands down the best eyeshadow brush I have ever owned. The MAC 217 brush really does do all the work for you. All you really have to do is move the brush in a back and forth windshield-wiper movement and it really does blend out even the harshest of eyeshadow colors. I can definitely say that I am itching to buy more of these brushes, just because they’re perfect for almost anything, and you can use them for so many different things. The MAC 217 brush runs for about $23 at your local MAC Cosmetics Boutique. Yes, the brush is a bit on the pricey side, but I definitely believe that the MAC 217 is well worth the money, especially if you are someone who uses eyeshadows on a daily basis and you’re looking for an amazing brush to work wonders with your eyeshadows! So if you’re contemplating getting this brush, I highly recommend that you do because it is one magical little fella. :]

Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser

Hello fellow Beauty Lovers,

As it seems, I’ve been pretty caught up in life and I haven’t really been able to write about some of my favorite products that I’ve began loving for these past few weeks. So here’s something that I’ve gotten rather attached to for the past few months.

When I purchased my clarisonic, I got lots of free samples from different companies, and one that I absolutely loved was the Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser.

This cleanser was so amazing when I used it with my clarisonic, I really started to feel a difference on my face. Basically, this opaque black gel cleanser is creates a warming sensation upon contact and deeply cleans and detoxifies the complexion. The cleanser heats up when put on the skin in order to open and declog pores. The cleanser works into a soft lather and dissolves make up, excess oil, rinses away pore clogging residue, and works over time to diminish impurities. The Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser is formulated without parabens, sulfates, and phthalates, so its a bit gentler on the face than other cleansers.

Overall, I really LOVE this product. I’ve been using it for about a month now, and I’ve noticed that my face is brighter, my spots and blemishes are starting to fade, and my face just feels smoother and looks healthier. This product does NOT need to be used with a clarisonic, and can be used alone with either a your hands, a washcloth, or even a Konjac Sponge.

The Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser runs for about $28.00 at Sephora. After I’m finished with my sample size bottle, I’m gonna run to go get the full sized bottle! I definitely recommend this product to anyone who’s looking for a deep cleaning cleanser to really get into the pores and detox the face!

NYX HD Studio Photogenic Finishing Powder

Recently, I purchased NYX’s HD Studio Photogenic Finishing Powder from my nearest Ulta. I had heard from a couple different people that this powder was very similar to Make Up Forever Microfinish Powder and after doing some research of my own, I found that both NYX’s finishing powder and MUFE’s Microfinish powder are made with the same ingredient – 100% Mineral Silica.

What it does:

This powder is a translucent, lightweight, fragrance free, loose powder which is made of fine milled silica. NYX’s HD Studio Photogenic Finishing Powder has a super smooth formula which is perfect for setting foundation and finishing your overall make up look.

The powder is completely white and translucent which makes it perfect for any skin tone. The powder absorbs oil, gets rid of unwanted shine, and leaves a matte finish.

Because the powder has a such a lightweight silky texture, it creates a soft focus effect and minimizes and blurs imperfections such as fine lines, scars, and blemishes – creating a flawless finish. It can be applied over foundation or worn alone depending on your personal preference.

Applying this powder is easy and fairly quick. I use this powder by taking the slightest amount on a fluffy powder brush and then taking it and gently buffing it into my face in a circular motion.

Some of the cons are that this powder is extremely loose and the packaging is not as great as it could be. Sometimes, the powder does fly around when I open or close the container but I don’t really mind it that much.

NYX’s HD Studio Photogenic Finishing Powder is about $10 – I bought mine from Ulta, but I’m sure it can be found at other stores or on the NYX’s website.

Overall, I love this product, and I’m so glad that I decided to get the NYX’s brand finishing powder instead of spending double the price for the same exact product swith a different name. If you’re looking for a finishing powder thats not super pricey but is super effective, I definitely think this is the one for you!

Liebster Award – First Award Nomination as a Blogger!

I’m so happy that I was nominated for the Liebster Award by Shazia from Itsshaziaa – one of the cutest blogs I have come across. Shazia takes a creative spin with her blog writing about her thoughts about everday life as well as make up and beauty! (DEF check it out! She is adorbable!)

I’m so surprised that Shazia decided to nominate me, simply because I didn’t really expect it! But this definitely means that there are some people who actually enjoy reading what I have to say (YAY!) Thank you so much Shazia and the rest of my followers for being such great fellow bloggers and giving me your opinions, comments and positive feedback. You guys rock! ❤

About the Award:

The Liebster Award is specifically for bloggers with less than 200 follows, but for some reason it can be used to nominate bloggers with under 2,000 followers as well (I really don’t know how so bare with me). This is great because it gives bloggers from all over to discover new bloggers and become more connected within the blogging community.

1. Bloggers who are nominated must link back to the person who originally nominated them.
2. Nominees must answer the 11 questions given to them by the blogger who initially nominated them.
3. Nominees must also choose and nominate 11 of their favorite bloggers with under 200 followers  to answer their questions.
4. Bloggers nominated for the award cannot nominate the person who originally nominated them for the award.5. Nominees must inform the bloggers they wish to nominate about the award and that they have been nominated.

* (2000 followers loophole as mentioned before)

My Nominations:

Shaziaa’s Questions for Me:

1. What is the craziest thing you have ever done?

Hmm, that’s a tough one because I’ve done a lot of crazy things and most of them cannot be written out on the internet (LOL seriously tho).  I guess the craziest thing (PG Rated of course) would be running around all of North Philadelphia trying to get to the DayGlo Concert with my best friend Debbie and totally failing at life. We ended up not going because it was just a disasterous night but it was still one of the best memories I have with her.

2. Why do you blog? What is your main inspiration?

I blog because I want to share what I know about make up, my thoughts and ideas with others. I also find that blogging is a great way for me to unwind and relax especially because I love to write. My inspiration are my friends and family who have been telling me that this is something that I am great at and have a natural talent for and have always supported me.

3. What superpower would you want and why?

If I could have any superpower it would be Teleportation. I could be in Philadelphia in one second and France in the next. That would definitely be the best superpower ever! Plus I’d never have to drive or take public transportation ever again!

4. Are you superstitious? If so, what is the superstition you believe in?

I guess I kind of am, I always knock on wood if I say something that I don’t want to jinx. (seriously I do it all the time).

5. Are you a coffee or tea person?

I’m actually a little bit of both… probably a little bit more of a coffee person though.

6. What is one of your new years resolutions?

To learn to let things go and move past certain things that I can’t change.

7. If you can only eat one meal all your life, what would it be?

Hm.. that’s really a tough one. It would definitely have to be Thai Basil Noodle with Chicken and Shrimp (Preferably from Banana Leaf – the best restaurant ever)

8. If you could be born in a different time period, when would it be?

I’d want to be alive in Ancient Egypt just because I’m fascinated by the idea and I would love to see it in person rather than what I’ve learned in my text books.

9. What is one place you are absolutely looking forward to traveling to?

Italy and Spain – probably next year!

10. What is one thing you would like to try in 2014 that you have never done before?

I really want to go sky diving. I’m terrified of heights, but its something I really want to do!

11. If you can go back to being 13, what is one advice you would give yourself?

Think with your brain, not with your heart, it’s going to help you in the long run.

My Questions for My Nominees:

1. What’s the first think you do when you wake up in the morning?

2. Who’s your celebrity crush?

3. Why did you first start blogging?

4. What is your dream job?

5. What was your favorite book to read when growing up?

6. What do you do to relax?

7. Who is one person you can’t live without, other than your family?

8. What are you top 3 make up products?

9. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

10. If you were stuck on an island, what 3 things would you want with you?

11. What is the meaning behind the name of your blog?

Thank you Shaziaa and Missjoannaalonzo for nominating me again! You guys are the sweetest! ❤

Clarisonic – Worth the Hype?

For my birthday this year, my mom and dad finally got me my Clarisonic Mia 2 – something that I have been wanting about for over a year now. I was SOOO excited to finally get my hands on this little thing and I couldn’t believe they actually bought it for me!

For some of you who don’t know, a Clarisonic is a face cleansing system that is constantly being talked about among beauty gurus as well as beauty and skincare lovers.

What is the Clarisonic?

“The Clarisonic Sonic Method, a combination of patented sonic devices and state-of-the-art skincare formulas, is clinically proven to amplify results of both professional treatments and daily skincare regimens.” –

Basically, it’s a handheld cleansing system for your face that uses sonic technology and is claimed to be one of the best way to clean your face rather than using just your hands.  I know.. it sounds strange and kind of unnecessary doesn’t it?

What Does the Clarisonic ACTUALLY Do?

“Clarisonic’s patented sonic technology gently removes the impurities traditional cleaning methods leave behind, cleansing six times better than your hands alone. In just 60 seconds, its sonic action removes impurities from pores so that creams, serums, and moisturizers are more effective. And with regular daily use you’ll notice a reduction in dry patches, oily areas, and blemishes.” –

There are various versions of the Clarisonic but one of the most famous is the Clarisonic Mia 2 – which is the one that my parents gave me. Now, the question is – Does it ACTUALLY WORK?

My Experience

I received the Clarisonic Mia 2 in Sea Breeze (basically Tiffany Blue – my absolute FAV color) in a set from Sephora which was designed for detoxing the skin. Instead of getting the sensitive skin brush that I wanted, I received the detoxing brush. I had read that this brush was a bit harsher than others but after doing some research of my own, I decided to just stick with the brush that the kit came with and see how things worked out.

When I first got the Clarisonic Mia 2, I was a bit scared to use it, because many people had said that once you begin using it, your skin may begin to break out because it has never experienced such a thorough type of clean before. So basically breaking out or as some people call it “purging” was one of the initial reactions to the Clarisonic cleansing system. However, I found that my skin really didn’t react this way at all.

I have pretty clear skin with occasional break outs here and there. My skin is a dry and oily combination, with some dark spots and uneven skin tone. One of the reasons I wanted to get this product was because I had read that it eventually helps with dry skin and evens out the skin tone over time as well as slowly reduce blemishes.

I have been using the Clarisonic for about a month now, and I have noticed some changes in my skin. My face is softer and absorbs my moisturizer better and over time I’ve noticed that my breakouts are reducing somewhat. I’ve also noticed that my face has a more even tone overall and my dry patches are diminishing.  I usually use my clarisonic ever other day because I find that the detoxifying brush can be a bit too much on my skin to use every single day.

I also started using all the little samples that my brush came wish such as the Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser, which is really great and I am thinking about repurchasing this product (I use this cleanser about once a week). For everyday use, I use my Clinique Liquid Facial Soap for Mild Skin and this really works great with my Clarisonic because its a gentle and effective cleansing face wash.

How Does it Work?

Basically, after I charged this bad boy, I put some of my facial cleanser on the brush head and turn it on.  I clean my face with the brush in small circular motions for 1 minute – 20 seconds for my forehead, 20 seconds for my nose and chin, and 10 seconds for each cheek. The Clarisonic is Completely waterproof which is really freakin’ awesome because I can use it in the shower too – which I do sometimes. The Mia 2 comes with 2 speeds. but I like to use it on the lowest speed when I don’t really have any make up on. Another great thing about this little fella is that after each cycle of seconds it makes a beeping noise so you know to move onto the next part of your face, which is really helpful so you don’t over do it.

Worth the Hype?

I definitely LOVE my Clarisonic Mia 2, and I really feel like there is a noticable difference in my face. My make up applies smoother on my face, my bumps and blemishes are slowly going away. I’ve also noticed that my face has a healthy glow and just feels overall amazing.

The Clarisonic is a very pricy tool and usually costs between $100-$300 depending on which model you decide to purchase. The Clarisonic Mia 2 is $150 – which is again, a lot of dough but is definitely worth the money. The Clarisonic comes with a 2 year warranty which is great because the company will fix anything wrong with it or send you a new one if something goes wrong.

Sephora often times offers the Clarisonic in a set with samples of different products, which is the one that I got, and it’s really great because you’re paying the same amount but getting more for your buck.

I also remember seeing the Clarisonic Mia First for $99 at Sephora on Black Friday (and I’m pretty sure it’s still the same price still), so there are some more options if you’re not willing to throw down so much cash.

So, basically I would recommend this to anyone who is thinking about buying this product because it really does work and is totally worth all the hype its getting. It is a bit pricey but definitely worth it for anyone that has troubled skin and is debating whether or not they should purchase this product!

My 7 Favorite Tricks of the Trade

I’m always getting asked what some of my beauty and make up tricks are, so I’m going to try and keep this post short and simply for all you people who are wondering what my usual beauty routine consists of!

Yes, I know this one is pretty simple and self explanatory. I personally have extremely dry skin, which means if I DONT moisturize before using make up, I will look like a hot cakey mess. For me, moisturizing always makes my face look 10 times better. Seriously, don’t skip this part of your routine because it makes all the difference.

I really can’t live without primer .. I don’t know how I ever did in the past. Primer always helps me out because it keeps my make up on for a longer period of time, which really cuts down on how many times I have to touch up my face. It always prevents the make up from sinking deep into my pores, especially if I’m using full coverage make up, or getting really decked out. Primers allow for your face to have a smooth surface to apply make up on while filling in the wrinkles and smoothing out bumps and blemishes on your face.

There are some really great primers out there, and I highly recommend doing some research before purchasing one! Some that I love are Smashbox PhotoFinish, Sephora Base Zero Brilliance Anti-Shine Primer, and Cover FX Mattifying Primer with Anti-Acne Treatment. I also ALWAYS wait for my moisturizer to get fully soaked into my face and dry properly before I apply any type of primer just so my face doesn’t get oily and this also makes my foundation application easier.

I always love my eyelashes to be full of volume while being extra long. However, I get pretty lazy when it comes to using my eyelash curler; but when I’m going for a full face of make up, I definitely whip out my eyelash curler and use it to make those bad boys extra long and beautiful. ;]

This is something that I seriously have an obsession with. Highlighting and contouring is something that REALLY makes a difference when applying make up. The whole point of this technique is to create a more chiseled and slimming  look along your cheekbones, jawline, temples and sides of the nose by using a darker colored foundation or bronzer which adds depth and shadows to your face. Highlighting does the opposite because it enhances other parts of your face and makes them stand out – such as the bridge of your nose, your cupids bow (above your lips), the middle of your forehead, and the undereye area. You can highlight and contour more or less depending on what look you’re trying to achieve. (I’ll be creating a seperate post on how I Highlight and Contour my face soon!)

Yet another obsession I have. WARNING: Once you start doing this little trick, it may be hard to stop! (seriously tho, it’s addicting). I absolutely love the look of full, thick eyebrows, regardless of whether I’m doing a full face look or just a quick make up routine. I start off my combing and brushing my eyebrows (with those small mascara wands from sephora and ulta), just so they look clean and tidy and then I usually take whatever is left on my brush after I apply my gel liner (I use a standard angled gel liner brush) and use that to lightly fill in my brows. I fill them in by sweeping my brush in the same direction that the hair falls in. For Example, if the hair is standing UP (like the hairs closer to my nose), I move my brush vertically, and for those that are closer to my arch, I move the brush horizontally. I try to go darker where my arch is and lighter closer to my nose just so it seems more natural that way. After I’m done with that, I go back with the little mascara wands and brush out the brows again just so the eyebrows don’t look to harsh and dark. I have naturally fuller eyebrows so I don’t fill them in too heavily, but again, this is something that you can tweak depending on what you want the final product to look like.

Personally I use Blacktrack Gel Liner from MAC to fill in my eyebrows just because its fast and it works just the same as everything else I’ve tried. bBut you can also use a darker shade of matte brown eyeshadow, or an actual eyebrow pencil with the same technique for similar results!

This is something that I do every other week, just to exfoliate my lips which makes them look healthier and fuller. I take a little bit of honey and mix it with sugar and use that to scrub my lips lightly. It really makes a difference when you apply lipstick or liners. I also use this technique before applying any Matte lipsticks because it just makes the lipstick look so much better on the lips. P.S. Don’t forget to put some chapstick on after you do this! :]

This is something EVERY girl needs to and should do. One of the main reasons you should clean your brushes is to get rid of all the bacteria that can build up and accumulate on your brushes. I clean my make up brushes about every two weeks with regular shampoo and conditioner. I try doing it more often but I get pretty lazy, and I have a LOT of brushes so it literally takes forever. I know some people go out and purchase an actual make up brush cleaning solution but I find that if my shampoo and conditioner cleans my hair and leaves it feeling soft and lucious, it can do the same for my brushes. Basically I lather up my brushes with shampoo and rinse them and then do the same with conditioner. I let them dry overnight and the next day they’re clean, soft and ready to use (plus they smell amazing). Clean brushes can make all the difference when you’re trying to get a flawless finish with your make up, even though cleaning them can be a pain in the butt sometimes!

So that’s pretty much all the things I do for my make up routine! (even though I’m sure there are a few things that I forgot to mention!) If you have some techniques you love and you want to share them with me, leave a comment below :]

Until next time!

MAC Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm

A couple of months ago I found myself at the MAC (of course) messing around with the new (well it was new then) “Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm”, while I was picking up a new bottle of my studio fix foundation.

I’ve had a long and tedious fight with BB creams. When they first became popular, I went out and got a couple of drug store brand BB creams, and I also went to sephora and got a couple of samples of Smashbox and Tarte Cosmetics BB Creams. However, I found that I hated these creams. I felt that they never really did anything for my face, and the coverage was too sheer for my liking. I noticed that I would use these BB Creams and then I would put some foundation over them because there wasn’t enough coverage – which was something I thought was pointless because I didn’t want THAT much product on my face. I mean, what’s the point if I’m just going to put foundation over it? So, needless to say, I gave up on the thought that BB Creams were for me.

UNTIL RECENTLY… when I found MAC’s Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm. I asked the MAC Sales Associate which color would match my face, and she looked at me and said “DARK”. I looked at her like she was crazy, because usually my skin tone is a medium tan color. But she saw the look on my face and told me not to worry because the BB creams blend out their color. And so I tried the DARK Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm and she was right. Surprisingly the color matched my face almost perfectly when it was blended it out a bit. As soon as I tried this BB Cream on my face, I couldn’t believe the results. I was SO intrigued with this BB cream because it was a thicker cream than most BB creams I had used in the past. This BB Cream was similar to a light/medium coverage foundation and it actually blended incredibly well into my skin. I seriously couldn’t believe how amazing it was. So I asked the lady at the counter if she could hook me up with a sample of the BB cream because I wanted to go home and see if I could do a full face with this product.

The next day, I used some of the Prep +Prime BB Beauty Balm before I went to class in place of foundation in my normal make up routine. As the day progressed, I noticed that BB cream was still on my face and it didn’t wear off. The more I used the BB cream the more I noticed that my face was looking natural but still somewhat flawless. It covered most of my old acne scars and imperfections while still looking like I was wearing hardly anything on my face. I began raving about this product to both of my roommates and they couldn’t believe it either. When my roommate Sneh found out that I was going to purchase this product, she told me that she wanted to get it for me instead for my birthday. So she ended up getting me the BB Prep + Prime Beauty Balm in the color “Dark” for my birthday because she saw how much I loved it (I really do have the best roommates ever).

Basically MAC’s Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm is an amazing product if you want something that is lighter than foundation but has similar coverage PLUS this BB cream is SPF 35, so it does protect your skin from the sun. I usually get a great result when I use this BB cream with concealer and bronzer. It helps my face look flawless without using that much product. I usually use this BB cream during the day when I’m going for a light make up look. I wouldn’t suggest this BB cream or actually any BB cream for someone who has lots of scars and imperfections they want to hide, because you would probably be better off using a medium to full coverage foundation. But for those people who are looking for something light and fast, this might be the perfect thing for you! MAC’s Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm retails for $30 at the MAC counter, which is a bit expensive but most of MAC’s foundations and primers are around that price. I really do believe this BB cream is worth the 30 bucks because it is a high end product and the coverage of this BB cream is phenomenal!

Nars Guy Bourdin – One Night Stand Cheek Palette

This year, I received one of the best gifts I have ever EVER been given for my birthday from my darling bestfriend and roommate Debbie (shoutout to the bestfriend in the world snitchesss <3) . If any of you know me personally, you know I have a slight obsession with Blush. I like lots of it on – dark colors, light colors, shimmery, matte, everything. I JUST LOVE BLUSH. So my best friend in the whole wide world of course, schemed and plotted to get me the most amazing present ever. Basically, I was pretty much done with my Nars Orgasm Blush I had purchased earlier that year, and I was pretty bummed so Debbie decided to get me the “Nars Guy Bourdine – One Night Stand” Blush Palette. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this, this is one HELL of a birthday gift. Basically, its 4 of Nars’ popular blushes (including my fav Orgasm!) along with their extremely famous bronzer “Laguna” and a highlighter as well. Debbie was soooooo excited to give me it, she actually gave me the palette before December had even started (because she loves me THAT much) and I think I almost cried when she gave it to me (lol seriously).

Moving on…

I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS PALETTE. I don’t think I’ve ever loved a specific piece of make up as much as I love this palette. I think I actually wake up everyday a little bit happier when I see that beautiful thing on my dresser (I don’t even know if I’m joking or not). This palette is AMAZING for anyone who loves blush as much as I do. Seriously, it’s all the good and love in the world put into one amazingly packaged item (okay, I may be going a tad bit overboard, but not really). Here’s a look at the most gorgeous thing I have ever owned…

Basically this palette has it all, a great bronzer, highlighter, and four awesome blushes, so you can really build any look you want because it has so many options.

Here’s a little review on the product.

All the colors in this palette are highly pigmented, as are most of Nars’ blushes and cheek products. So here’s the review:

1. Orgasm – I’m really not going to go much into detail about this blush, because I’ve already done a review on this color (see my first post if you’re curious). Basically with this color, Nars gives you a peachy pink with fine gold shimmer. It’s not gold glitter, which makes it  a really unique color. The shimmer is so perfectly mixed into the color that it really looks flawless on the cheeks. This color is one of Nars most famous blushes, and its well worth what you pay for.

2. Goulue – This is a great plum colored blush, with hints of golden shimmer. It’s not as shimmery as Orgasm, but instead its more of a subtle shimmer. It looks amazing on any skin tone, and I would definitely wear this color more in the fall and winter, but thats just me personally. Honestly, it would look great on any skin tone because it’s a buildable color. You can load on more color if you’re going for a more dramatic look, or just do a light flush of color as well.

3. Mistinguette – This is the color I have been reaching for MOST out of this entire palette. It looks like an extremely bright pink, but don’t let the looks of this color deceive you. This is an AMAZING matte pink color. It really looks beautiful on your face, and again, it’s a very buildable color. I usually use this color when I do a heavy eye look and I don’t want that much shimmer all over my face and cheeks, and other times, I use it for an everyday look with just some BB cream underneath. Either way, it’s my new favorite color from Nars and surprisingly I’ve been using it more than Orgasm (not saying I like it more but it’s getting pretty damn close!). It really looks good on any skin tone, and I can’t wait to see what its going to look like on my face in the summer when I’m a little bit more on the tan side.

4. Deep Thoat – This is a color thats similar to Orgasm, but has a LOT less shimmer and looks a bit more on the frosted side. Basically it’s a similar shade of pink as Orgasm but looks more muted because it’s less golden and shimmery. Personally, I haven’t really tried this color as much as I would like to, but I feel like it’s a color that’s going to look better on me in the spring or early summertime. But I have tried it a couple of times, and it’s a great color and if you’re someone who likes orgasm, but you want less shimmer I would definitely recommend this color.

5. Devotee – This is the highlight that Nars gives with this product. This is a great highlighter; it does it’s job and does show up well on the skin. Its shimmery and doesn’t have a bronze or golden undertone like some highlighters do have, which is something I really like because I don’t like my highlighters too look too bronzy. I do like using this highlighter a lot, but I don’t think I would have purchased it seperately if it didn’t come with the palette. But regardless I’m glad it came in the palette because it does look great on my skin tone.

6. Laguna – So here’s one of Nars’ most famous bronzers, Laguna. I hate to say this, but I was a little bit disappointed with this bronzer =( . It’s a bit too light for my liking and it takes a while for it to show up on my skin because I really have to build the color to get the look that I want. I feel like the color of the bronzer just isn’t for me. I know a lot of Makeup fanatics love this color, but I have to disagree. I don’t think this is an ideal color for contouring my cheeks. However, I do like this color to use as a bronzer on the apples of my cheeks when I want more of a bronze look overall. I also tend to use it sometimes to contour my nose if I’m in a hurry and I don’t want that much of a contour. I’ve also used it as an eyeshadow a couple of times to blend out my eyes, and put in my crease, and I actually do really love it for this purpose. I’m definitely going to try to contour my face a couple more times with the Laguna bronzer but as of right now, I have to say it’s the one thing in the palette I use least. Maybe I’ll find more uses for it later on? Who knows!

Of course, this palette comes with great packaging just like all of Nars products. Its a sleek and thin palette that’s pretty easy to take anywhere. I do feel that it’s a bit delicate but that’s just because I’m a little OCD when it comes to my make up. I defintely would be terrified to drop this baby anywhere or just throw it in my purse but it’s pretty tiny to pack anywhere else.

So basically, that’s my opinion on the Nars Guy Bourdin One Night Stand Cheek Palette. I am in love with this palette, and I really am so SO happy that I own it. I believe that this palette was a limitted edition palette from Nars, and I don’t think that it’s available anymore in Sephora or through Nars, however, you can purchase any of these colors separately for about $29 each at any Sephora, Nars counter, or online. I know it’s a tad bit on the pricey side, but I honestly do love all of Nars blushes and I think they’re a great investment for anyone who loves blush.

P.S. Special Shout Out to the BEST bestfriend in the whole wide world. ❤ don’t know what my life would be without you tinky!

Let’s Talk About Primer!

Primer is something that every girl (or guy <3) should use if you want a flawless look thats gonna last for a while. Personally, I started using primer about two years ago, and the first one that I purchased was a sephora brand primer, and it was a pretty good deal. I paid about $14 for it, and it worked pretty well. I ended up liking it quite a lot so I bought another one as well.

This past semester, one of my roommates and bestfriends Sneh had gotten the Smash Box Photo Finish Primer. She told me it was a good primer and she told me that I had to try it. As soon as I put this primer on my face, I was sold. HOLY CRAP! This primer is something that is SERIOUSLY worth the money. Yes, its very pricey, I’m not going to lie, BUT it is the most amazing tube of product I’ve ever gotten my hands on. Turns out my precious roommate had also gotten me this magic tube of perfection for my birthday. ❤ (YAY!)

I’ve had this primer for about 2 weeks now and it really is incredible. Its a clear cream like lotion that applies amazingly. Literally, the moment I put this on my face, it gets rid of any uneveness on my skin, masks any bumps or pores, and fills in my fine lines like a pro. It allows my face to feel silky smooth and buttery without being too oily, which is awesome for my oily/combo skin. This primer also helps to inhibit the destruction of collagen and the vitamins and antioxidants help smooth over your skin, pores, and fine lines to achieve that flawless end result. After I use this primer, my foundation practically glides onto my face with such ease. Honestly, I don’t know what I ever did without this primer.

It runs for about $36 at sephora, yes, that’s a hefty price for some primer, but I really believe it’s worth the money because it does make my face feel amazing, and ever since I’ve started using it my face doesn’t really break out as much and I feel like my face is just generally softer and clearer overall. If you don’t wanna pay $36 for the big tube, sephora does also sell a smaller version for about $15! For all those who want to try this product but aren’t sure if it’s worth the money, I highly recommend marching into your nearest sephora and asking one of the sales associates if you can take home a sample of primer. I do it all the time, because I’m just one of those people that have to try something before I buy it (especially if it’s a higher end product).

I’m on the lookout for a good drug store primer as well, so as soon as I find one that I like I’ll definitely review that one too. If you have a drug store primer you think I should try, or have any questions or concerns comment below :]
